Maia was originally born in the late 1930's to Ethan and Mary Rutledge, and had a sister named Sara. She was among the first of the 4400 to be abducted, on March 3, 1946 in Crescent City, CA. Like the rest of the 4400, she reappeared after the appearance of a large ball of light over Highland Beach in Washington, a lake just outside of Seattle. Also like the rest of them, she had not aged a day in decades she had been gone, and she returned with a special ability. For her, it was the ability of premonition. Instinctively knowing information, or getting glimpses of what's to come. The NTAC who was in charge of monitoring the 4400, tried to place her in foster homes. But her abilities unnerved her foster family. They returned her to the center, and she bonded with Agent Diana Skouris who took her home, and eventually adopted her as her daughter.
